Before becoming a Chicago locksmith…

If you are looking into becoming a Chicago locksmith, there are several things you need to know. Illinois requires certification for you to become a locksmith and there are many steps involved in becoming licensed.

First, you must complete the application for the license at least 60 days before you want to take the locksmith examination. Next you must achieve a score of 70% or better on the examination. Once you have successfully passed the test, you will be required to submit your fingerprints, (not required if you have recently retired from a law enforcement agency) and proof of one million dollars worth of liability insurance. You will also be required to pay a licensing fee.

A new employee of a locksmithing company must complete a 20-hour basic locksmithing course within thirty days of hiring. The employer must keep a record of the certification.
